relax|girlcam #1 rifle departs from Jessyca R. Hauser’s previous work, using the webcam as medium that sits peripherally in relation to contemporary modes of distribution/documentation of the self. From a placid generic ocean scene, rises a saturation of archival imagery and a self-composed soundtrack. Both an immediate collapse and implosion of the image, the work proposes dissolutions of the I. Positioning trauma as agency and window onto the redundancy of narrative in a flattening of the mind, the track’s repetition of the you, me, noone hits with a bass reminiscent of a Xanax sedated rifle.
